Kelp washing up in the surf on Surf Bay at sunrise. Kelp forests form an important ecosystem, all around the islands, supporting the wider ecosystem that thrives in the oceans around the Falkland Islands. This ecosystem sustains the penguins that come to the shores all around the islands as well as the large number of whale species that thrive around the coasts. I believe that this image is important as it is necessary to remember all of the parts of the ecosystem and not just the large mammals and birds which are more frequently photographed.
