This is a picture of representatives of over 100 fisherfolk communities leaving a meeting in Bonthe, Sierra Leone in April 2009. At the meeting the pressures on the communities from illegal industrial trawling were addressed, as was the lack of any alternative sources of livelihood, so that fishers were forced to cut down the mangroves in order to have any chance of short-term survival, in full awareness of the long-term damage they were causing.
